Citywide Shelter Animal Adoptions: Today through Sunday, 20 animal shelters are having adoptions throughout Southern California, including these in the 818: East Valley Animal Shelter, 14409 Vanowen St., Van Nuys and West Valley Animal Shelter, 20655 Plummer St., Chatsworth. Five counties have a goal of finding forever homes for 5000 shelter animals in the month of November. The campaign kicks off this weekendwith a weekend featuring discounted adoption fees and giveaways to adopters, personal matchmakers and professional behavior trainers. To honor our nation’s heroes, The Fall 5000 also launches the Pets to Patriots program, sponsored by The Jason Debus Heigl Foundation, which offers free adoptions for veterans throughout November at participating shelters.
Southern California’s Largest American Indian Arts Market: Southern California’s Largest American Indian Arts Market: Over 160 Native American artists will be at The Autry’s annual Marketplace on Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Featuring the finest in contemporary and traditional American Indian arts, the festival includes more than 25,000 square feet of exhibition space, artist demonstrations, music, dance, and food. Weekend events will include seminars for collectors and main stage entertainment for the whole family.
Hands on History Day: See what life was like on a working ranch in the mid-1800′s. Make tortillas, learn how to churn butter, roping, how laundry was done before washing machines and dryers, and enjoy crafts. You can also visit the new Chumash Village and watch cooking in the Horno Oven, weaving, clothes making and see a blacksmith work. Enjoy music and folk dancing. Saturday, 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Leonis Adobe Museum, at 23537 Calabasas Road, Calabasas. Members are free, $3 for adults, $2 for children.
Downtown Burbank ARTS Festival: City streets will be bursting with arts and culture at the four-block outdoor festival on San Fernando Boulevard between Magnolia Boulevard and Olive Avenue, Saturday from 10 a.m. -6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Art for sale by approximately 100 regional artists will be on display along with numerous chalk artists applying their creative skills to large-scale themes related to the Burbank Centennial. The festival will include paintings, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, fiber art, fine glass, woodwork, mixed-media and photography. In honor of the Burbank Centennial, chalk artists will be working on themes related to Burbank history and icons. Free and open to the public.
Holiday Artisan Bazaar: There’s unique gifts for all ages at this Holiday Artisan Bazaar on Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m, hosted by the Costume Designers Guild 892 and Motion Picture Costumers 705. Artisan crafts include vintage clothing from the 20’s, 30’s and onward, contemporary clothing, hand-made jewelry, leather goods, outerwear for dogs, girl’s custom tutus, children’s items, illustrated holiday cards, paintings, sculptures, photography, mid-century modern glass vases and more. ., Art Directors Guild parking lot at 11969 Ventura Blvd., Studio City, 1/2 block east of Radford and the Farmer’s Market. Free parking on the street and in the CBS Radford lot. Free entrance, $1 optional door donation benefits the Motion Picture Television Fund.
Agoura Munch Madness: It’s an afternoon of Sunday food and fun from 11 a.m.- 6 p.m. that is open to the public to benefit Agoura High’s International Baccalaureate program. More than a dozen of LA’s top gourmet food trucks will be on hand, enjoy live jazz and rock concerts, a Munch & Crunch Contest, interactive dance and fitness presentation, face painting, prizes, and more. Truck include: Nom Nom, Don Chow Tacos, India Jones, Frysmith, Rebel Bite, Shrimp Pimp, Sweet E’s Bakeshop, Crepe ‘n’ Around, Lee’s Philly, and others. $5 in advance or $7 (cash) at the gate. Congressman Brad Sherman Town Hall Meeting: The Congressman will discuss the economy, taxes, the national debt, education, Social Security and Medicare as well as other issues facing Congress.
